Product manufacturing process

Zinc ingot, a major product, is manufactured through a hydrometallurgical process. High-purity zinc ingots with 99.995% purity are manufactured through the following four processes: Roasting - Leaching - Electrolysis - Casting.
In the zinc smelting process, sulfuric acid with 98% purity or higher is manufactured and simultaneously, the environment-friendly dry treatment process of zinc residue has been adopted to recover various valuable metals such as copper and silver byproduct from zinc residues after smelting zinc and manufacture them as products. Clean slag, the final byproduct generated during the dry treatment process of zinc residue is sold as a raw material of cement, thereby minimizing waste discharge and improving resource circulation.

Roasting Plant

A process of heating zinc concentrates at a roaster at around 950°C and converting it into zinc oxide

This process converts zinc sulfide concentrate into zinc oxide, preparing it for the hydrometallurgical process (dissolution and purification).SO2 gas generated during the process of converting zinc sulfide concentrate into zinc oxide is used to manufacture sulfuric acid in the sulfuric acid manufacturing process. Zinc oxide (known as calcine) after desulfurization is transferred to the dissolution process.

Leaching & Purification Plant

The process of making zinc solution through leaching and purification plant from the calcine as the main raw material.

Leaching Plant

It is a process in which calcine, produced by desulfurization during roasting, is reacted with sulfuric acid to convert zinc into an aqueous solution.The calcine, transformed into a suitable oxide form during roasting, reacts with sulfuric acid to recover the target metal, zinc, in the form of a ZnSO₄ aqueous solution.During this process, impurities contained in the calcine are also dissolved, and these impurities are subsequently removed in the purification process.

Purification Plant

This is a process to remove impurities from the neutral solution carried over from the leaching process.The neutral solution contains not only zinc but also various impurities dissolved in aqueous form after reacting with sulfuric acid.To remove these impurities, a cementation method is used, which leverages the difference in ionization tendencies between zinc and the impurities.The purified solution, which has a high zinc content after impurity removal, is then sent to the electrolysis process.

Electrolysis Plant

A process of electrolyzing the zinc solution and making it into zinc sheets

This process recovers zinc by electrolyzing the zinc aqueous solution (purified solution) after removing impurities.
Zn metal is deposited onto a cathode by passing an electric current through the zinc aqueous solution after placing plates (anode, cathode) into the solution. A sufficiently deposited zinc sheet is stripped from the cathode and manufactured into products in the casting process.

Casting Plant

A process of melting the Zn metal sheet in an electric furnace and manufacturing general zinc, combination zinc, zinc alloy, etc., through casting machine

This process involves melting the zinc manufactured during electrolysis, casting it into molds and manufacturing as products according to product group.

Top Submerged Lance

A process of converting a byproduct inevitably generated during the zinc smelting process into clean slag to be reusable.

It is a process of recovering zinc remains from residues after dissolving zinc oxide.
The treatment of the residues is important to improve the recovery rate of zinc because about 19% zinc remains in the residues and conventional cake after dissolving zinc oxide.

ZLD (Zero Liquid Discharge)

This zero-liquid discharge (ZLD) system completely treats wastewater generated from manufacturing processes, ensuring that no effluent is released externally.
