Company Overview
We will create a bright future with sustainable resource circulation.
Since taking its first step into the industrial society under the name Young Poong Corporation in 1949, Young Poong Co., Ltd., began exporting zinc ingots to foreign countries in the 1960’s, making its name known at home and abroad.
To overcome Korea’s reliance on imported zinc ingots in the 1970’s, Young Poong established the Sukpo smelter in Sukpo-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, and entered into the smelting industry for comprehensive non-ferrous metals such as zinc.
In 1974, sister company Korea Zinc Co., Ltd. was founded in Onsan, Gyeongnam Province, and the Onsan smelter was established, playing a leading role in supplying the domestic zinc market.
In 1988, Young Poong zinc ingot was registered in the London Metal Exchange (LME) and recognized for excellence in the quality of the zinc ingot in the global market. Since then, at Sukpo smelter, equipment has been expanded, and the process has been improved through continuous investments. In June 1999, state-of-the-art electrolysis automation equipment was introduced through the implementation of the equipment rationalization project and the equipment expansion project, thereby enhancing productivity.
As a result, Young Poong possesses annual production capacity to produce 400,000 tons of best quality zinc ingot, 728,000 tons of sulfuric acid, 1,830 tons of copper sulfate, 3,000 tons of electrolytic copper cathode and 46,000 tons of silver byproduct.
We improve productivity and protect the environment through the Top Submerged Lance(TSL) technology that is used to secondarily recover valuable metals such as zinc from the byproducts remaining after primarily smelting zinc.
Young Poong introduced the world’s first Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system in 2021 and takes the lead in environment-friendly, sustainable management.
Young Poong will continue to grow as a world-class, top-tier company in the 21st century through consistent quality management, optimization of equipment operations, and environmentally conscious management.
